Bobby
B & Jay Jagpal

Music has always been one of Bobby's true passions.
Since the tender age of eight it has dominated his life.
It initially began while he was listening to artists
such as Gurdass Mann, Kuldeep Manak, Surinder Shinda and
Chamkila. He later became interested in western artists
including Run DMC, Dr Dre, Michael Jackson and Bally
Sagoo. The musical element spawned from there, but the
actual showmanship and performance of being a DJ began
at the age of fourteen. This was when Bobby started to
convene with other fellow DJ's and caught the so-called
"DJ virus"...
In his teenage years he invested in his first set of
turntables on which he learned how to mix down tracks
and blend in music. In 1995 Bobby became part of "Desi
Krew Roadshow", covering various types of Asian events
and holding residencies in many RnB clubs
In 1999 Bobby started a degree course in Music & Audio
Technology to develop a further knowledge of music
creation. 2001 saw the unofficial release of his
nationally acclaimed Urban Mix-Tape "Da'B Side". This
was one of the phatest mixed tapes produced in Glasgow,
and created such an impact on the R'n'B and Bhangra
scene, that people still await the sequel!
Leading on from this success, Bobby toured the UK with
Channel 4's Urban program 'UK Flava'. He has also
entertained in T-in the Park's VIP tents for the past
two years in front of an audience of internationally
recognised artists such as Pharrel, Oasis, Black Eyed
Peas, Snoop Dog...He has also been the DJ for The Game &
G Unit Scottish Tours.
At the age of 21, Bobby was one of the youngest Scottish
DJ's to have played for Trevor Nelson at the
unforgetable 'MTV Lick' and Radio 1's 'Rhythm Nation
Parties'. In addition, he has played at the Scottish
MOBO Awards and the Beat 106 Parties, alongside many
other top DJ's. Bobby's portfolio is overflowing with
projects. These include working alongside the industry's
top names such as, Aitch B, Jamelia, Tim Westwood,
Glamma Kid, Ms Dynamite, Black Vinyl Magic, Hanif,
Dodge, Swerve, Fun*dmental, Romeo, Harvey, Paul N'jie,
Punjabi Mc, Rishi Rich, Jazzy B, Aman Hayer, Mentor
Kollective,
Metz'n'Trix, Tigerstyle, Kray Twinz, PHS, Achanak, Alaap,
Malkit Singh,
DCS, RDB and many more....
Currently, Bobby holds his 4-year running residency with
'The Explicit Licks Street Team'
(www.explicitlicks-u18.com) who run many nights
throughout Glasgow, including the Sub Club Under 18's
and 'The Jump Off' at Destiny Night Club. Bobby has also
worked alongside many club promoters in Scotland, to put
R'n'B/Bhangra on the map. His portfolio inlcludes club
nights such as the infamous Tuesday nights in Trash (T.I.T)
and Destiny,Blanket, Cube, Tunnel and Glasgow's Carling
Academy. He has DJ'd at Room at the Top in Bathgate,
covered the Citi Club in Edinburgh, and provided
outstanding performances throuhgout various clubs in
Dundee.
In 2003, Bobby was approached by Scotlands only Asian
Radio Station, Awaz
FM, to host a DJ show. Over the last 2 years, he has
presented his
Bhangra/R'n'B show, with studio visitors such as B21 and
Jay Sean.
In 2005, Bobby created 'Desi 301', a group of the
north's finest Dj's,
MC's, lyrists, producers and musicians - all with the
same goal of developing
and nuturing the Urban Asian Music scene in Scotland.
Desi 301 are
presently collaborating on an album, which is due for
release in 2006 on
VIP Records Ltd
On a personal note....
"The element of being able to control the mood of a
crowd and whip them
into a frenzy when playing the latest hot jams or old
skool classics is
phenomenal. Any dj can play a fixed set every week with
little or no
alteration to the playlist, but it takes a skilled DJ to
adapt to
different crowds and different nights as no two nights
or two crowds are
ever the same. DJ'ing for me is all about educating the
crowd,
entertaining the crowd and giving them what they want."
