Jaskurn
Gosal
Jaskurn
Gosal is a 23 year old Punjabi lad from Brisbane
(Australia).
Jas’s passion for music developed over the course of his
teenage years where he started to establish which
opportunities lay ahead of him, having overcome a few
obstacles, he realized that music was something he
wanted to take up. He began experimenting with tracks
and creating mixes, fusing different sounds together to
make a new sound.
Having made a number of underground remixes, his name as
a DJ from australia expanded. His ability to remix saw a
turning point with a major record label recognising one
of his remixes of Gippy Grewal's ‘Phulkari’ which ended
up on the mainstream compilation album ‘Planet Bhangra’.
Jas was determined to take his music a step further and
turned to producing his own music from scratch. Being a
keen percussionist, Jaskurn had the skills to implement
his production with instruments like the Dhol and Tumbi.
Having learnt all his percussion from his ustaad,
Gurbinder Guraya, he was determined to learn his
favourite instrument, the ‘tumbi’. Being in Australia it
was going to be difficult to find someone who could
teach him, so eventually after much practice and
perseverance he taught him self how to play.
In 2002 Jaskurn joined the Brisbane based DJ group, ‘Bhangranights’.
Together, they toured all over Australia and performed
live at many clubs and private functions. This step also
saw him tour New Zealand and also perform in the famous
Decibel night club in Delhi (India).
A few years later after making friends in the Bhangra
industry, he was pushed by his peers to have a crack at
mainstream production. This forced him to travel to
India to record vocals and instruments. With help from
his colleagues in India and Uk, Jas was able to discover
the raw talent which he was looking for.
