History of VIP Records

VIP Records launched in 2005 with their debut release ‘Party Time’ by DJ Vips, the album saw the now cult anthem ‘Lus Lus’ which saw the Bhangra classic brought back to life. Building on the back of the successful debut release; VIP Records delivered two groundbreaking albums in ‘Sparked’ by Northern Lights, and the compilation album ‘Pure Desi Vol 1’ which saw a RPP of only £5.

2006 saw VIP Records carry on fiercely with groundbreaking release from Bikram Singh (American Jugni), most known for the iconic single ‘Kawan’. VIP Records also signed highly acclaimed duo ‘Specialist & Tru Skool’ who delivered the highly awaited second album ‘Repazent’ to great critical and commercial acclaim. The year also saw VIP Records deliver exciting releases from Ryan Singh (Dholicious), KS Bhamrah (The Return) & PJD (Rumours).

2007 saw the VIP Records brand acquire top international acts with the release with Josh (Mausam) & Hans Mann (Much Jatt Di). Alongside releasing highly acclaimed international releases, VIP Records continued in its tradition of developing new artists, with the blockbuster debut releases of Jags Klimax (The Album) & MC Special (Something Special), both albums delivering iconic hits in; ‘Heer’ & ‘Nachna Aundha Ni’.  2007 also saw the VIP Urban imprint launched with the diverse album by Blitzkrieg (The Rhyme Book). 2008 saw VIP to extend their strong international presence, with album releases from renowned international acts Diljit Dosanjh & Rani Randeep. Alongside international releases, VIP Records released the sophomore release by Bikram Singh titled  ‘Tip Top’ – to great commercial success.

On the back of a strong 2008, VIP Records continued their high standards when they introduced one of the most exciting Bhangra acts in decades; JK! The release of ‘Gabhru Punjab Dha’ single was quickly followed by ‘In The House’ a compilation album featuring production from Tru Skool & Kaos Productions. 2009 saw a strong year for homegrown releases with great new releases from; DJ Gurps, Pal D, Twin Beats & Moneyspinner, each album offering a great unique flavour.

VIP Records saw them have a hugely successful 2010, a year which saw the label deliver arguably both the album and single of 2010! ‘Johal Boliyan’ and the album ‘Mundeh Punjabi’ by Kulwinder Singh Johal dominated the charts, with Johal Boliyan spending a record breaking 6 weeks on the Official Asian Download Chart. The year also saw an enthralling debut release by G-Town Desi, along with JK again topping the charts with ‘Challeh Mundian’ the official first ever Asian Download Christmas Number 1!

After a record breaking 2010, VIP Records expanded their catalogue to include the official ICC World Cup 2011 Highlights DVD – distributed across the United Kingdom. Alongside introducing a brand new artist in Mani Hype, VIP Records released the long awaited debut album by Bhangra superstar JK titled ‘Gabru Panjab Dha’. The album shot to No.1 on the iTunes World Music Charts, and peaked at #46 on the Mainstream album charts, an amazing feat for a Panjabi music album.
