Boliyan’ the first single to be released from the
long awaited debut album by folk vocalist Kulvinder
Singh Johal.
Kulvinder Singh Johal first arrived in the UK in
1981, having been born and brought up in Panjab, in the
district of Jallandhar, he quickly settled down in the
city of Derby.
Having been brought up during the golden era in Panjabi
folk music, Kulvinder Singh Johal attributes his
love for music and inspirations as some of the true
legends in Panjabi music. The celebrated names of
Kuldip Manak, Surinder Shinda, Mohd. Saddiq, Lal Chand
Yamla Jatt, Ranjit Kaur, Narinder Biba all
contributed to Kulvinder Singh Johals musical
upbringing, however he places Dilshaad Akhtar as
his all time favourite singer.
Kulvinder Singh Johal was first introduced to the
music scene on the critically acclaimed album by The
Specialist and Tru-Skool titled ‘Word Is
Born’ (Saibaa Dha Khath, Moohoo Boldhi, Maame Dhe
Poth and Dhullah), Kulvinder Singh Johal’s reputation as
one of the most ferocious vocalists in the UK Asian
Music scene rapidly grew.
Features on ‘Repazent’, ‘Raw As Folk’, Pure Desi Vol 3
and on the Immortal Productions ‘Shaheedi’ series (Shaheedi
400, Panj) further cemented Kulvinder Singh Johal as one
of the most powerful vocalists in the bhangra industry.
Kulvinder Singh Johal saw his music extend beyond
boundaries when he teamed up with Panjabi MC for
‘The Land of Five Rivers’. The single was used by
WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) as the theme
tune for their Panjabi wrestling superstar ‘The Great
Khali’, being played to millions of people across
the globe.
Having teamed up with Sukhjit Singh Olk aka Tru Skool,
Kulvinder Singh Johal has been carefully preparing his
debut solo release. Alongside Tru Skool, who has
produced three singles on the album, Kulvinder Singh
Johal worked closely with the highly rated Kaos
Productions, who have produced seven songs.
‘Johal Boliyan’ also sees the introduction of a
UK Born female vocalist by the name of Raman Aujla
who along with JK is another student of Tru Skool.
Currently studying as a Law Student, Raman Aujla has
spent years under the guidance of Tru Skool preparing
meticulously for her first foray into music. Having
teamed up with Kulvinder Singh Johal on ‘Johal Boliyan’,
Raman Aujla is set to leave her own distinct mark on the
scene.
The single, a pure Panjabi folk duet has been produced
by Tru Skool and features his charismatic hip-hop
stamp finely blended with authentic folk sounds,
deriving from the influences of Kulvinder Singh Johal.
The ‘Johal Boliyan’ is set to deliver another
certified anthem from the Derby based producer, to add
to his already large collection of hits.
The video for the single has been shot and is ready to
hit the airwaves soon, the family friendly video
features a colourful mela backdrop alongside a more
contemporary setting to showcase the diverse sounds
delivered on the single.
