In a very short time of a musical career, Sona Walia made waves in the Bhangra scene with her debut album ‘RESHAM DI DORI’ and made a mark in the Bhangra industry by winning ‘BEST DEBUT, FEMALE’ at PTC Music awards 2009 (Punjab) followed by ‘BEST DEBUT, FEMALE’ at UK BHANGRA AWARDS, 2009, LONDON.
Sona Walia was born in Jalandhar city, Punjab. She has an interest in singing since her childhood. Sona’s roots are in Punjab and she always makes them shine through her passion of performing arts. Over the years she has enjoyed performing for her local Punjabi community. She graduated in vocal music in India.
After seeing talent in Sona Walia, famous classical vocalist Mr. B.S. Narang introduced her to the talented music director Mr. Tejwant Kittu and promoter Papa Joe who then decided to bring her talent forward. Sona started her musical career in 2007 at Papa Joe’s 100 Studio, UK. Working with renowned music director/producer Mr. Tejwant Kittu, her Debut Album ‘RESHAM DI DORI-LOVE STRINGS’ got released worldwide under Kittu Productions in 2008 which also featured famous reggae singer/rapper Apache Indian in the song ‘Akhiyan Tere Naal’. This song was later featured in one of the leading soaps in UK, EASTENDERS in Dec 2009.
To promote her mother tongue and Punjabi culture she has been touring abroad, Paris, India, Dubai & Canada. Along with performing at big melas, festivals and concerts and she has been supporting charities through her art.
Sona got recognition by ‘All Party Parliamentary Group in Britain’ who decided to honour her with an award in the ‘HOUSE OF COMMONS’, LONDON on the 24th march 2010 for her contribution towards Punjabi culture.
